General Information

  • Katryuu/ キャトーリュウ is pronounced Kat Ree Oo, or in Japanese Kya To Ryuu.
  • Katryuu (Cat+Japanese name for dragon) are cat-like dragons.
  • Katryuu have one, two, and three syllable last names (usually clan names), such as Pon, Cha, or Ko, Soto, Riko, or Maki, or Asato, Urika, or Bokoto (as examples).  Having other last names would be due to a different living environment (such as living outside the forests in the modern world) or being adopted by non-Katryuu species.
  • Katryuu are magic humanoid creatures.  They breath fire, have wingless flight capabilities, and can also learn different types of magic.
  • Katryuu tend to laze about.  They love sleep and their warmth makes them rather lazy creatures.

Types of Katryuu

  • There are 3 types of Katryuu, normal Katryuu, Berserker Katryuu, and Feral Puchi Katryuu.  Alternatively, Katryuu can also have kemonomimi forms as well; two types; normal Kemonomimi or Katryuuman (see guide above).
  • Normal are usually a similar height to humans and are the most common.
  • Berserker Katryuu are taller, slimmer, and have large arms.  They are large because these Katryuu train for over 100+ years to concentrate their inner flames to their arms, allowing them immeasurable strength.  They were meant for fighting during war times when outside species fought to enslave Katryuu.  A Berserker Katryuu's punch is deadly, and hot, leaving burn marks on their victims.  Berserker Katryuu do not live among other Katryuu in the forests, they train in the mountains at various shrines.  They are also known to live with Koon Foo.
  • Puchi Katryuu...are tiny creature Katryuu that can take feral forms to live amongst humans and non-Katryuu homes.  They also have a non-feral form, that makes them look like they are a shrunken form of a normal Katryuu.  Also known as shape-shifting Katryuu.
Habitat, Customs & Traditions: (Always a work in progress...)
  • Katryuu traditionally live in bamboo forests, and they grow those forests themselves.  These bamboo forests are magical, and keep them hidden from predators and outside species.
  • Katryuu are generally friendly to other species, and are easily adaptable to life outside their clans, but their lounge-like and lazy lifestyle makes it difficult to create a life for themselves in the modern world.  This is not to say that Katryuu are really lazy, but they enjoy their "me time" and feel they have no time to do what they don't want to do.  For example, they probably can't keep a modern job to make an income in the modern world, because that sort of thing is unknown to Katryuu.
  • Katryuu have subdivision clans, usually thought of as their "family" and not always by blood.  While Katryuu are social creatures who get along with eachother, many often find their own social circles or extended family they spend the most time with.  There are various kinds of clans, for example: male/female only clans, fighter clans, dancer clans, etc.  You can read more about clans here: LEMME TALK ABOUT KATRYUU CLANS!
  • Katryuu have many kinds of festivals throughout the year that showcase their many talents, such as Katryuudou martial arts, dancing, or food.
  • Katryuu can make weapons from their breath, and can also make beautiful glassware or pottery.  They love to craft...when they aren't lazing about.
  • Katryuu love hot springs, and it's the only water they can bathe in, as long as it's shallow waters.
  • Katryuu cannot swim.  Katryuu need air to be able to breath their fire.
Special Abilities:
  • Wingless flight
  • Fire breath (fire color differs from each Katryuu, making them unique!)
  • Katryuudou - Martial Arts (a mixture of Kung Fu, Aikido, and Ninjutsu) - Katryuu are generally required to train throughout their life.
  • Acrobatics & Dancing - Katryuu are skilled entertainers and some work in circus, or dancing.  Females often opt to learn dancing over martial arts, but knowing both can be deadly.
  • Different types of magic; there are shapeshifting Katryuu, Katryuu that can heal or summon protection, and Katryuu that can use other elements beyond fire as part of their Katryuudou or Berserker training.
  • Some rare types of Katryuu can have firey ends on their tails.
Fire Bodies and Breath:
  • Fire is the life source of all Katryuu, which dwells inside their body.  It's a magic fire, and is the heart and soul of Katryuu.
  • Each Katryuu's fire is a mixture of 2-3 colors (common).
  • There are rare or forbidden colors to flames.  Black signifies a curse or impending death.  It can also turn this way if a Katryuu betrays their clan or the land.  White can also mean death.  Flames can also become different elements, such as ice, if the Katryuu is a deeper practitioner of magic.  There are also said to be sparkling flames, or only smoke.
Beliefs:
  • Katryuu are very spiritual creatures.  They have shrines which they pray to.
  • They do not have a "God" per se, they just believe in a higher universal power.
  • They value the land and sea, and the bounty it provides, and do not take more than they need.
  • They take care of the land and in return they believe the mana of the world gives them their magical abilities.
Diet and Health:
  • Meat protein
  • Rice
  • Vegetables on occasion, usually pickled
  • Liquids: Rice wine (which they brew themselves), Fruit Juices, Rice milk (contains no dairy)
  • Lactose intolerant, so no milk!
  • Water is usually a last resort.  Drinking it is usually for when a Katryuu is sick.
  • Feed their children rice porridge and soft meats.

Clothing:

Female Clothing Ideas: www.dropbox.com/sh/ns4qleunc74…
Male Clothing Ideas: www.dropbox.com/sh/6trdhzxyxdk…
  • Generally, most common is Asian influenced clothing. Chinese and Japanese, preferred style clothing.  Please see the Dropbox links above to get an idea of the type of clothing they wear.
  • Modern clothing is fine too, but they love wearing loose fitting clothes best.  That is why sometimes they prefer clothing with drapes or hangs.
  • Do not wear shoes. They find them uncomfortable.  (unless in kemonomimi form)
  • On special occasions they have jewelry and head adornments. Katryuu with leadership traits often have their hair braided or tied up in some fashion with lots of hair adornments (without hair adornments and jewelry, the hair being tied does not mean they are leaders). If they wear any jewelry around their ankles or arms, they have a partner.
  • Their version of formal wear are kimono-like dress, and cheongsam.  Males wear samurai-like robes and such.
Body Types:
  • Females are short (under 5'5").
  • Females have only small chests (think A-B cups), they do not grow large ever. Scientifically there is no reason for a Katryuu breast size to change because they don't give birth the same way humans do, they don't have periods, and they don't breast feed. And they are fairly healthy so they never gain weight in their chest.  If they have C-D Cup breasts, this is rare, and usually caused by a human diet of fatty foods.  Females have nipples, but they do not use them to feed their young, and they only appear when they are aroused with their partner.
  • Males are tall (starting from 6'0").
  • All have three toes, and five fingers. Their feet have paw pads, their hands do not.  They have small claws on their fingers, and larger claws on their toes.
  • They all have a sort of gentle, cat-like walk, or can float just inches above the ground most of the time.
  • Because of their wingless flight, they cannot fly large distances.  But they can get around very easily.
  • Tails: On both male and female, tails are normally long and very fluffy at the base.  Their tails are thick to thin.
  • Tongues: Both male and females have pointed tongues of various colors. Their tongues are heat resistant.

Species Related Special Items:

  • Kaseru. Ka meaning fire, and kiseru, a smoking pipe. Kaseru are flame pipes. The chamber of the pipe holds a Katryuu's flame inside, It's kind of a pointless item normally, used for fun or to show off. But if another Katryuu uses it, it can be a sign of friendship or affection if the flames are mixed together. Sometimes it's used to flirt with another Katryuu as well.  Katryuu can make various shapes with their flames with it, so it's used for entertainment at times.
Mating & Related Info (kinda NSFW):
Katryuu can mate with the opposite or same sex. Their uniquely colored fire breath is breathed and blown into another, and can go on for several days. When the fire is properly mixed, a baby will grow.
  • If male/female mate, the female is chosen.
  • If two males enter this union, one is randomly chosen to bear the child.
  • If two females enter this union, one is randomly chosen to bear the child.
When Katryuu are aroused, their fire turns a different or deeper color and that is how it is used to make an egg. Katryuu are fire resistant, so fire can not only be used for protection and as a heat source, it can also be used for arousal among partners.  Blowing a fire breath on sensitive areas, like their necks, or along parts of their body arouses them.

Katryuu females only have "nipples" or bumps that appear when they are aroused, but they don't have them usually in every day life.   Katryuu females and males have "parts" like a vagina and penis that only appear when aroused (they are magical creatures so they can appear featureless if nude) but they don't produce semen or anything that would get humans pregnant, because the only way Katryuu can reproduce is through their flames they swap with other Katryuu. Katryuu add this human like element of "human sex" to when they have intercourse with their mates, but the flames are the key and their biology craves these flames, sex alone doesn't really do it for them (but some find it fun). These flames will kill humans or other non-Katryuu.  It can burn them or cause them great pain and can be hard to control. Katryuu cannot help but have warm, often hot bodies, so that's something to consider when they have relations with other species (it's probably something that makes them attractive to humans). They poop (lol) so they do have a butthole.

Katryuu can also have "kemonomimi" like forms, only keeping their tails and ears, and the rest of their body being human.  In this case their biology is more human-like, but they still have warmer bodies than normal humans, even in this form.  It uses a great deal of magic.  Even as a kemonomimi their biology still does not allow them to bare children from other species.  Rare, forbidden magics can help this, but it could potentially kill the Katryuu if performed.

Birth: Children are call Kitryuu.  Babies are born from eggs. Egg colors usually indicate the colors of the baby. The parents colors are usually related or mixed.

Relations with other species:

Humans: It's not uncommon for Katryuu to be curious about humans, and even live with them.  Some Katryuu even fall in love with humans...

Koon Foo: The Koon Foo islands, where Koon Foo come from, are also home to the Berserker Dojos.  Katryuu come here to train to be berserkers and usually live with and befriend Koon Foo, sometimes forming clans with them.

Lapish: Lapish are fish merchants and sister-species to Katryuu.  Each clan forms bonds with Lapish so they are able to eat fish from the sea.  In return for the food, Katryuu will usually give Lapish jewels or handmade glassware.
